Welcome Autumn.. and the not so welcome Lash Shed!

What is the Autumn Lash shed?

As we hit Autumn, we typically see temperatures start to drop, hours of day light decrease as well as changes to humidity. As our bodies adjust to these changes, it usually results in hair shedding including your lashes!!
The same thing also happens in Spring!

Lash Growth Cycle
Your hair and lashes are one of the fastest growing cells in the body with lashes full growth from baby lash to adult lash taking just 8 weeks.

The different stages of growth start with the Active Growth stage, known as the Anagen stage.
During this phase the lash actively grows from baby lashes that go on to mature into thicker and longer adult lashes. Once they’ve hit full maturity they will then enter the resting phase (Telogen phase). At this point the lashes have now stopped growing and wait to enter the shedding phase. This is the part when the hair follicle holding the eyelash will start to loosen and slowly release the eyelash from its grip. The full lash cycle lasts about 100 days.

During the hotter months, research has showed that more lashes enter the resting phase causing a bigger shed coming into Autumn!

What you can expect:

You will lose more lashes! - you naturally lose 1-5 lashes a day per eye and this can increase during Autumn (March - May). This means lashes aren’t so full and due to this shedding increase, you will have less lashes to work with but don’t worry you will have new growth coming through and will be back to normal in 3- 6 weeks.

Longer lash infill treatments or possibly shorter time between infills - With all the new growth coming through, your lash tech will need more time to apply to the new lashes or you will find that instead of 3-4 weeks between fills, it may be more like 2-3 weeks during this time. Volume lashes can also be used to help fill any noticeable gaps!
