In Salon Teeth Whitening
One of our most called about treatments (after lashes of course!) is our teeth whitening treatment so we thought we should dedicate a blog to it!
Is teeth whitening suitable for everyone?
Answer: Teeth whitening is a treatment most people want and can have, however, it is not recommended for children under 16 years of age or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should avoid teeth whitening if you have gum disease or are requiring dental work.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Answer: We offer the latest whitening gel approved for use in Australia - currently 6% HP. We have a hygienic procedure. Our team wear gloves and masks (we did even before covid!). Our gel is gentle and safe, problems are extremely rare. Teeth whitening is safe for crowns and veneers although these will not lighten as much as natural teeth.
Isn’t teeth whitening only meant to be at a dental surgery?
Answer: Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that is non-dental. The products that we use are gentler than but as effective as those you will find at the dentist. All of our products are Australian compliant and produced to the highest standard. At Beaches Lash Co, we do not purchase our teeth whitening products from overseas. We purchase from an Australian supplier in Queensland. Teeth whitening, no matter who does it, bleaches stain from the surface of the teeth, it does not whiten enamel.
How many treatments will I need?
Answer: That really depends on the stains you have and the results you are after. If you need a follow up treatment, you need to allow around 6 weeks between treatments so if you are whitening your teeth for a special occasion such as a wedding, we recommend visiting Beaches Lash Co for your first treatment around 3 months prior to the event.
Will teeth whitening fix a grey tooth?
Grey teeth are most often caused by a internal discolouration called intrinsic staining. Whitening will only benefit stains on the surface of the tooth known as extrinsic staining.
How long will the results last?
Teeth will maintain their fresh new appearance for around one year. Re-staining depends largely on an individual’s diet and lifestyle. Smoking or any staining food or drink such as red wine, coffee, tea, sodas etc will eventually re-stain the surface of your teeth. For best results, you should keep up your bi-annual clean at the dentist so that the bleach is working directly on the stains rather than a build up of plaque.
Now for some facts..
FACT 1:
•Teeth are similar to your skin.
You might understandably consider teeth to be rock-hard and therefore impenetrable, but you’d be wrong. Your teeth are in fact porous, containing thousands of tiny pores just like your skin. As a result, anything you eat, or drink will be absorbed into your teeth through these microscopic pores.
FACT 2:
•Teeth whitening doesn’t damage your teeth
Far from popular belief, teeth whitening when carried out properly doesn’t damage teeth. Problems, however, can occur when people misuse store-bought products rather than have professional in-chair whitening. The charcoal products that you can buy at a supermarket can actually scratch the enamel of your teeth and we would recommend against use of these products.
FACT 3:
•Not all teeth can be made perfectly white.
Teeth whitening can only remove staining that has occurred over time and cannot change the underlying colour of your teeth. So this is something you should be aware of when hoping to achieve paper white smile because it may not always be possible.
